globally inspired jewelry, home décor, and wearable art

My go-to for catharsis and contentment is to create. My passion for ancient cultural representation is expressed in unique one-of-a-kind creations. Having lived in Sweden as a child and Japan as an adult, I’ve also been fortunate to travel alongside a shaman on the Amazon River in Peru, go on a safari through the wonders of Africa, and experience European highlights including Paris, London, Stockholm, Copenhagen and others. My interest in other cultures—especially those showing elemental, indigenous, and tribal in nature—has resulted in my artwork today. This interest can be traced back to childhood, when I would eagerly search behind my neighbor’s shed for the discarded bits of agates and gemstones he tossed into the dirt. As a young artist I was drawn to primitive designs, working with sketches, stamped metal, and patterns and symbols from African art and ancient hieroglyphs. In later years I’ve been inspired by Nouveau, Bohemian, and Old World designs, sometimes mixed with simple, clean Zen-like designs for home décor and wearable art.

Growing up surrounded by the ethereal paintings of my amazing artist mother, my creative talents were not only encouraged, but shared. Together, we not only collaborated on artistic creations, but also went to each other for constructive feedback and critique. The freedom to explore, design and create enabled me to embark on journeys of discovery using a wide array of mixed media throughout my artistic career.

A communications major and journalism minor, I use my love for the written word as another avenue for artistic expression. As a Pilates instructor, freelance writer, and artist, I often turn to music as a conduit for tuning into deep emotions and inspiration—spurring my creations.

My style has been described as unparalleled and distinctive, with returning customers drawn to my one-of-a-kind work.

Jewelry
My mixed-media jewelry includes numerous rare finds—many incorporating relics and ancient representations of cultural beliefs, traditions, or sacred emblems from across the globe. I often include amulets, also called talismans. In many cultures they are believed to possess an unearthly power to protect, heal and bring good fortune. Each piece of my jewelry is designed with a juxtaposition of rare glass and tribal components positioned next to contemporary colorful gemstones, ceramics, beads, charms, and tassels. The asymmetry in my work offers a creative palette of colors that “pop” next to subdued metals and organic forms.

Home Décor
I work in metals, acrylics, pastels, and mixed media. Painting on various substrates allows me to obtain a variety of textures: on paper, canvas, and wood. My love for texture and abstract art is apparent in each piece. My work is for sale as wall art in various sizes. Several of my paintings are digitally transferred onto pillows, placemats, tablecloths, and other home accents. I own a MId-Century Modern ranch home and enjoy designing the interior with clean, artistic and unique decor.

Home Décor Consultation
As a consult to individuals on home interior design and decor, and a recipient of site visits to my home for interior ideas, I’m eager and happy to help. Having worked with a realtor to stage a home for sale, and interviewed by a writer upon request to capture how I arrive at my decor, I decided to open my conversations and suggestions up to anyone interested. I’m available to those who resonate with my style for sharing and discussion of ideas.

I offer a free initial home visit for assessment. If interested, there is affordable follow-up work to create an environment that represents and echoes individual representation within your home. Just contact me to get the ball rolling!

Wearable Art
A selection of my abstract, contemporary paintings are printed onto wearable art clothing. Items include dresses, artist vests, shirts, shawls, and scarves. All fabrics are machine washable, extremely soft, and wrinkle free. They are not only space savers, but also great travel items to take on trips where ironing is not an option!
